AIS Equipment
AIS receivers and AIS transponders display marine navigation information on a radar or chart plotter display or a dedicated AIS display. Class A AIS and Class B AIS systems have been in use for years and are gaining acceptance. As a marine safety device, AIS is a substantial addition to powerboats and sailboats. NMEA, the National Marine Electronics Association has published standards for AIS communication with a wide array of marine electronics devices.
